My Week at Wieden+Kennedy

My week at Wieden + Kennedy started off by walking into the glass double doors thinking they would open for me. I don’t think anybody noticed that which is good.
I’m sure everyone says the same thing, as soon as you walk into reception; you notice the displays – which is true. They are everywhere.
Posters, sculptures, phrases, images, colour, advertisement.
So much that it all just blends. This is what made the building such a hospitable environment to be in. No wonder their advertisement works (by the way it does because my mum is now religiously devoted to Lurpak).
You become instantly inspired and driven to create something amazing. Something impactful. And then you find yourself alphabetically ordering DVD’s. Which is all part of work experience. At least I’m not franking mail all day.
In all honesty, it was one of the most influential experiences of my life – helping the creative research and inputting small amounts made me feel a part of the W+K ecosystem. By the second day I already knew this is what I wanted. A career where the very place I work helps motivate and inspire. I noticed that the relaxed atmosphere I felt originally was actually the very opposite. Deadlines exist. People do get stressed, but the drive comes from the feeling of doing something that you are passionate about.
W+K is different from any other job I can imagne – even in advertising. It allows personality to flourish and enhance. Everyone is different, and everyone makes mistakes, but that is nothing to cry about. These attributes are key to become a part of the W+K lifestyle, and as long as you own a pair of Nike’s – you will be right at home.
